Tether Energy, the issuer of the world’s largest stablecoin USDT, is preparing to deploy their first Bitcoin mining rigs in Latin America. Chief technology officer Paulo Ardoino has confirmed that the site is “progressing well” and operations are expected to begin in the next few weeks. However, the exact location of the mining farm has not been disclosed to prevent “harassment”.Tether’s decision to launch a Bitcoin mining farm is strategic and aims to decentralize the network by distributing rigs worldwide. Bitcoin is powered by the same amount of electrical energy that can power the whole of the Netherlands, and miners are increasingly asserting that Bitcoin mining is clean and powered by renewable energy. Tether has previously stated that they plan to “harness the power of Bitcoin and Uruguay’s renewable energy capabilities” while ensuring that ” every Bitcoin mined leaves a minimal ecological footprint”.
